BARANGAY TARIJI HISTORY

Barangay Tariji is also part of the North District Division of Barangays in Tarlac City. It is surrounded by Barangay Dalayap on the North, Barangay Balibago 1st on the North East, Barangay Buhilit on the East, Barangay Salapungan on the West, and Barangay Aguso on the Northwest.

It is approximately 4.5 kilometers away from city proper. It has a total land area of 262.09 hectares, 174.75 hectares corresponds to agricultural area, and the reaming 87.34 hectares designate to residential and industrial area. It also divided into seven Zones namely: Zone 1, Zone 2, and Zone 3 to Zone 7.

Barangay Tariji classified as Rural Barangay, it has a total population of two thousand three hundred one (2,301) as of 2005, and a household population of three hundred eighty five (385).

Barangay Tariji is also an agricultural barangay. Approximately 75 % of the total populace in this barangay is farmers. Farming is one of their major sources of livelihood. They cultivate palay, corn and vegetables and so on. Poultry rising is also one of their sources of income. Other residents were employees, laborers, contruction workers, drivers, and so on. Some residents have their own business like sari-sari stores and so on.

Barangay Tariji originated since 1902. It called before as Barrio “Bato” because of its road structured or the so-called Rocky Road. The people named Tariji before a beautiful flower with a beautiful leaf shape “Tari”- (a cock’s spur) as called. Until time comes, the nead for the settlers realized a public school. The first public school constructed in June 1982 it was a primary school then with three teachers from grade 1 to three. In addition, Mr. Felix Lacadin was the first teacher incharged. Due to the increasing population of the barangay after four years, it became a complete elementary school from grade 1 to 6. Parents and teachers go hand in hand to improve the school facilities or the benefits of the pupils, at present the school has many improvements both in physical and curricular management. Tariji Elementary School is now growing population it has now five buildings with nine rooms and one school head.

Ninety percent of the total populations are Pampango, and the rest are Tagalog, Bisaya, Pangasinense, and Ilocano.

Barangay Tariji celebrates their feast day every March 8-9 as a thanksgiving to their Patron.
