BARANGAY LIGTASAN HISTORY

Barangay Ligtasan is another part of nine barangay enclosed in Metro District Division of 76 Barangay in Tarlac City. Barangay Poblacion bound it on the North, Barangay Sto. Cristo on the East, Barangay Cut Cut 1st on the Northwest and Barangay San Roque on the Southwest.

It is approximately 1.0 kilometer away from city proper. It has a total land area of 43.04 hectares and almost the whole part correspond to an industrial and residential area. Different business establishments also founded here.

Barangay Ligtasan classified as urban Barangay, it has a total population of three thousand seven hundred seventy nine (3,779) as of 2005, and a household population of six hundred forty five (645).

Barangay Ligtasan is also one of the centers of commerce in Tarlac City. Different types of business firms situated here that contributes to the economy of this barangay. Hotels, restaurants, clinics are some of the business firms situated in this barangay. Residents if this area were employees, laborers, drivers, professionals and so on.

According to the folks of Barangay Ligtasan before it was just a street of Tarlac City named Ligtasan Street. It was coined as Ligtasan because when times that there is a calamity, it is always safe or “ligtas”. Nobody could blow away or disaster. Moreover, one thing happened according to the elders, during the Spanish colonization, Filipino guerillas are safe from the Spanish soldiers whenever they hid on this place. Anything that comes in this place such as calamity, it is always safe that is why it coined as “Ligtasan”. Their feast day before was celebrated concurrent with the City feast day. In addition, on year 2005 dated March 23 they started to celebrate their own feast day with their patron Christ the King. Christ the King because he was the Son of God, the savior of humankind.

Ninety percent of the total populations are Pampango, and the rest are Tagalog, Bisaya, Pangasinense, and Ilocano.

Feast Day of Barangay Ligtasan before celebrated concurrently with the celebration of Tarlac City’s feast day or the so-called Malatarlak Festival. It was a weeklong celebration ending on the 20thday of January. Their patron is Saint Sebastian. By year 2005 dated March 23, they started to celebrate there first ever feast day. Their patron is Christ the King.
