BARANGAY AGUSO HISTORY

Barangay Aguso is located at the Northern part of Tarlac City. It is included in the North District Division of Barangays in Tarlac City. Barangay Sta. Cruz surrounds it o the North, Barangay Sinait on the West, Barangay Salapungan on the South, Barangay Dalayap on the Northeast and Barangay Tariji on the Southeast.

It is approximately 4.8 kilometers away from city proper. It has a total land area of 400 hectares wherein 75 hectares designate to agriculture and 200 hectares correspond to a residential area and the remaining are open spaces such as road, school, etc.. It also divided into 5 Sittios namely: Sitio Centro, Sitio Pag-asa, Sitio Tañedo, Sitio Maligaya, and Sitio Tabane.

Barangay Aguso classified as Rural Barangay, it has a total population of Seven thousand seven hundred eighteen (7,718) as of 2020, and a household population of one thousand seven hundred twentyfour (1,724).

Barangay Aguso is a residential, agricultural, and commercial area. Most of their agricultural area was converting into a residential and commercial area. Other residents were employees, laborers, construction workers, drivers, and so on. Other resident have their own business such as sari sari stores, canteen and so on. Other business establishments were antique shop, restaurants and many more.

Barangay Aguso was then a forested and grassy area. During the time of the Spanish regime, people living in this place are small in number. After a few years, people from different places transferred in this barangay. According to the early settlers of this barangay, the forested area has different kinds of trees that grew, specially the trees, which had a big similarity with that of pine tree. Most of these trees grew in this place so the people who lived in this place decided to name it “Aguso”. Aguso trees are family of pine tree. The shapes of the leaves are round thin and the body of this tree is slender.

Ninety percent of the total populations are Pampango, and the rest are Tagalog, Bisaya, Pangasinense, and Ilocano.

Barangay Aguso celebrates their feast day every March 19 as a thanksgiving to the patron Saint Joseph. Saint Joseph after Our Lady, the holiest mere man who ever lived. He is Patron of Carpenters and Patron of Workers.
