BARANGAY MAPALAD HISTORY

Barangay Mapalad is also part of the West district division of 76 Barangays in Tarlac City. Barangay Laoang bound it on the West, Barangay Sto.Niño on the East, Baras-Baras on the South and Municipality of Sta. Ignacia on the North.

It is approximately 9.5 kilometers away from city proper. It has a total land area of 540.01 hectares. It divided into different division 119.0 hectares designate to agriculture and 421.01 hectares correspond to residential and industrial area.

It also divided into 7 Purok. Every Purok named after their Barangay Kagawad.

Barangay Mapalad classified as Rural Barangay, it has a total population of six hundred six (616) as of 2005, and a household population of ninety-nine (99).

Barangay Mapalad is also an agricultural barangay approximately only 40% of the total populace here were farmers because of the soil condition. The portion of the soil filled of gravel and sand that is why it is not an ideal soil for farming. They also raised sheep, goat and cow. Mango farm is also situated in this area. It is also one of their sources of livelihood.

Barangay Mapalad before was part of the Barangay Santo Nino they call it Sitio Quiopet. Since the residents here continue to grow in population, they file a resolution to separate their barangay. In 1980, the petition file granted the resolution. Base on the pioneer of this town, the first residents of this place were lucky (“Mapalad or Swerte”), especially the Escalona Family. Escolona Family are one of the well-known family in their barangay and they called it Malapad in Tagalog term “masuwerte” that is why the residents unites to call their barangay, Mapalad.

The pioneers in this barangay are the Escolona, Limos, Puyawan, Tabag, Magsilang, and Ramos family.

Ninety percent of the total populations are Pampango, and the rest are Tagalog, Bisaya, Pangasinense, and Ilocano.

Barangay Mapalad celebrates their feast day every November 07 as a thanksgiving to the Patron.
