BARANGAY MALIGAYA HISTORY
Barangay Maligaya is also part of the South District Division of Barangays in Tarlac City. Barangay Balete bound it on the East, Barangay Paraiso on the North, Barangay San Miguel on the West, and Barangay Central on the South.
It is approximately 6.3 kilometers away from city proper. It has a total land area of 30.15 hectares corresponding to residential and commercial area.
Barangay Maligaya classified as Rural Barangay, it has a total population of four thousand one hundred fifty two (4,152) as of 2020, and a household population of one thousand sixty four (1,064).
Barangay Maligaya is one of the 19 barangays on Tarlac City classified as an urban barangay. Because of its proximity to industrial and commercials site, most of the people residing of this area are working in industrial and commercials centers like Plaza Luisita mall and so on. Other residents were professional, drivers, construction workers, and so on. Some residents of this barangay acquuired their daily necessities through their mini businesses such sari-sari stores and others.
This former Sitio of San Miguel once called Sitio Bakante in the early 1940’s because there were no people living in this area. But as time went by people migrated and started to establish this barangay until it become populated and decided to pass a resolution to become a separate barangay of San Miguel. And by the year 1963, their request were granted and all officials and representatives of this barangay and also the residents of this barangay inaugurates newly established barangay and called it Barangay Maligaya which means “Masaya” or “Happy” because the Sitio Bakante were now residential area. Ariaco Lundang was the first elected Teniente del Barrio of this barangay.
Fajardo, Hipolito, Urquico, Lundang family were the first settlers of this place.
Resolution #106
April 19, 1954
On Motion by Councilor Porfirio H. Cabalu, Duly Seconded, Resolved, that after studying carefully the petition dated nov.26, 1952 of the residents of Sitio Maligaya, San Miguel, Tarlac, Tarlac, asking that their place he formed into a separate barrio, and finding the same meritorious, and in view, however, of the fact that barrios may be formed only by the acts of Congress or by Executive orders of the President, the said petition of the residents of Sitio Maligaya be as is her by forwarded to Honorable Constancio Castañeda, Congressman for the 2nd district of Tarlac, for whatever action he may dean proper to take there on, and resolved further, that a copy of this resolution, together with the herein mentioned petition be forwarded to Congressman Constancio Castañeda, House of Representative Manila.
Ninety percent of the total populations are Pampango, and the rest are Tagalog, Bisaya, Pangasinense, and Ilocano.
Barangay Maligaya celebrates their feast day every January 11-12 as thanksgiving to the Patron the Holy Family. Holy Family is a term referring to the child Jesus, Mary, and Joseph. In the Roman Catholic Church the feast in its honor falls usually on the first Sunday after the Epiphany.
