BARANGAY LAOANG HISTORY

Barangay Laoang is one of the 19 Barangay enclosed in the West District Division of Barangay in Tarlac City. Municipality of Sta. Ignacia bound it on the North, San Juan de Mata on the West and Barangay Mapalad on the Southern part.

It is approximately 12.2 kilometers away from city proper. It has a total of 645.02 hectares, 261.4 hectares corresponds to agriculture and 383.62 hectares designate to residential and industrial area. It also divided into 3 Purok namely: Purok 1, Purok 2, and Purok 3.

Barangay Laoang classified as Rural Barangay, it has a total population of three thousand two hundred seventy seven (3,277) as of 2020, and a household population of seven hundred seventy eight (778).

Barangay Laoang is an agricultural barangay. Farming is their major source of livelihood. They cultivate palay, corn, vegetables and so on. Poultry and piggery is also one of their sources of livelihood. Almost 90% of the total populace here were farmers. The others were employees, laborers, construction workers, drivers and so on. Some residents have their own business such as sari-sari stores, canteen and so on.

Laoang is a part of the vast land of Sto. Nino before it became an independent barangay. The Gonzalo Family owns it.

A legend says that this Barangay called from the very beginning as “kalawang” because of the “rust” the color of its soil. This type of soil is sticky and soft and its stains, the lands of anyone who holds it. This type of soil is the same, which used in pottery. Later on, it was change to Laoang. In addition, it separated through the resolution of Sangguniang Bayan.

The early settlers of this barangay are Abraham, Antonio, Acusta and Valete family.

Seventy five percent of the total populations are Ilocano, and the rest are Tagalog, Bisaya, Pangasinense, and Pampango

Barangay Laoang celebrates their feast day every November 26 as a thanksgiving to the patron Mama Delos Remedios.
