BARANGAY CUT-CUT II HISTORY

Barangay Cut-Cut 2nd is one of the 24 barangays enclosed in the South District Division of Barangays in Tarlac City. Barangay Ungot surrounds it on the West, Barangay San Jose, Barangay San Manuel and Barangay Balingcanaway on the North, Barangay Balete and Barangay Lourdes on the South, Barangay Bantog on the Southeast and Barangay Amucao on the East.

It is approximately 10.6 kilometers away from city proper. It has a total land area of 618.67 hectares wherein the whole designated to the residential and commercial area.

It is also divided into 7 Blocks namely Block 1, Block 2, and Block 3 to Block 7. In addition, a Sitio Homesite is part of this barangay having a 21 Blocks.

Barangay Cut-Cut 2nd classified as Rural Barangay, it has a total population of five thousand eight hundred sixty one (5,861) as of 2005, and a household population of one thousand one hundred seventy six (1,176).

Barangay Cut-Cut 2nd residents were almost Hacienda workers. Approximately 10% of the residents here were factory workers in International Wiring System (IWS), and Sanyo. At present, there is a massive unemployment due to unresolved dispute between the labor and management of Hacienda Luisita. For survival and daily living people planted vegetables and tree bearing fruits in their backyards. The vast land of sugar cane plantation turned to garden of grasses and weeds. Other residents find another employer so that they could sustain their everyday necessities.

Barangay Cut-Cut 2nd before developed to a residential area was then forestry where different types of trees, grass and wild animals lived. A lake with clear water occupied a certain portion not far away from this place. It was after 50 years when the name Cut Cut given to this place.

By the year 1923, Fermin, Granita a native of Pampanga was requested the Spanish owner of Hacienda Luisita to clean up this land to make it a sugar cane plantation. He was the first ever resident of this place. Later on, other families from neighboring places and provinces migrated here. They are Cariaga, Acosta, Lugnias, Basco, Domingo, Garcia, Cuaresma, Mercado and many more.

Before it coined as Cut Cut, it was just a Sitio of Bantog naming it as Sitio Balete because also of Balete tree located in this place. Many years passed and rapidly growth of population residents of this place decided to establish this Sitio Balete to become a Barangay. Mr. Modesto de Leon native of Ilocos Norte was appointed an Encargado and at his leadership, they tried to clean up the dormant land to make it a farmland and sugar cane plantation. He was also the one who gave name to this place called as Barangay Cut Cut. According to him, Cut Cut was a small simple barrio in Ilocos Norte that became an industrialized place. Through their belief, it could be might happened also to the barangay that is why it is also named as Cut Cut. Residents of this barangay pursue their goal to make it a progressive barangay and that time they started to call it as Barangay Cut Cut. It was in contrary that this barangay derived from a Kapampangan word “Cut Cut” which means “hukay” or “libingan”.

Since there was already barangay named Cut Cut established in Tarlac, it renamed to a Cut-Cut 2nd. By year 1942, it was first coined as barangay Cut-Cut 2nd that time Mr. Crispulo Mercado was elected the first Teniente del Barrio. As time changed many others, Teniente del Barrio was elected. At the year 2002, Mr. Rodolfo Supan, the Captain of this barangay who changed it into Sta. Catalina name after their patron Saint Catalina.

The pioneer families in this place are Mercado and Felimeno family.

Eighty percent of the total populations are Pampango, and the rest are Tagalog, Bisaya, Pangasinense, and Ilocano.

Barangay Cut-Cut 2nd celebrates their feast day every November 25 as thanks giving to the Patron Saint Catalina (Saint Catherine of Alexandria). Saint Catherine of Alexandria Is the virgin, martyr patroness of students and young girls
