BARANGAY BUHILIT HISTORY
Barangay Buhilit is also one of the 11 baranagays enclosed in the North District Division of Barangays in Tarlac City. It bounded by Barangay Balibago 1st on the North, Barangay Tariji on the Northwest, Barangay Sepung Calzada on the Southwest, Barangay Matatalaib on the South, Barangay Culipat on the Southeast, Barangay Trinidad on the East and Barangay Banaba on the Northeast.
It is approximately 3.9 kilometers away from city proper. It has a total land area of 249.10 hectares. Agricultural area has 65.75 hectares and the remaining 183.35 hectares designate to residential area. It also divided into 3 Purok namely: Purok 1, Purok 2 and Purok 3.
Barangay Buhilit classified as Rural Barangay, it has a total population of two thousand one hundred nine (2,109) as of 2020, and a household population of four hundred ninety (490).
Barangay Buhilit is an agricultural barangay. One of their primary sources of livelihood is by means of farming. Approximately 80% of the total populace here acquires their needs through farming. They cultivate palay, vegetables, corn and so on. Other residents in this Barangay were employees, laborers, construction workers drivers and so on. Some residents have their own business such as sari sari stores and others.
According to the early settlers of this barangay before the Spanish regime, this place called barrio Bulilit because approximately 90% of its dwellers were smaller than the normal height of an individual. It originated from the word “Bulilit” which means tiny or small individuals. When the Spaniards came and conquered the Philippines. Filipino woman of this barrio got married to Spaniards.the marriage with the Spaniards resulted into individuals who were taller than the old folks of the barangay were. Hence, the name bulilit was change into what now known of Barangay Buhilit.
The Espinosa, Rosales, Patio, Castañeda and Dayao family were the first families who settled in this barangay.
Ninety percent of the total populations are Pampango, and the rest are Tagalog, Bisaya, Pangasinense, and Ilocano. Barangay Buhilit celebrates their feast day every April 9-10 as a thanksgiving to their Patron.
