BARANGAY SAN VICENTE HISTORY

Barangay San Vicente is one of the biggest among the seventy-six (76) Barangays of Tarlac City with approximately having an area of 270 hectares. It boarders the national highway north of Manila and it is basically located East of Barangay San Roque and San Sebastian; North of Barangay San Rafael and San Jose de Urquico; West of Barangay San Pablo and Carangian and South of Barangay Cut-Cut I and it is just one (1) kilometer away from City Proper.

Barangay San Vicente classified as Urban Barangay, it has a total population of eighteen thousand one hundred five (18,105) as of 2020, and a household population of four thousand five hundred thirty two (4,532).

Barangay San Vicente is one of progressive barangays in Tarlac City. It is more on commercial and industrial centers. Different types of business firms, social institutions public and private offices situated here. Some are Tarlac Court Building, Tarlac Capitol, Tarlac Provincial Hospital, CLDH (Central Luzon Doctor’s Hospital) and many more. Residents of this barangay were mostly professionals, employees, laborers, construction workers, drivers, and so on. Some of the residents of this barangay were have their own business stall such as sari-sari stores and canteen.

Until the late 1920’s, Barangay San Vicente was just a sitio of Barrio San Roque, Tarlac, but through a petition of the people made in 1934, the sitio given a distinct political division. Mr. Gerardo de la Cruz, who was then the Barrio Lieutenant, headed the petition and it was submit to the Municipal Council of Tarlac. On April 29, 1934, the sitio was grant autonomy from San Roque.

After being separate from its mother barrio, the sitio was named after Vicente de Ferrer who was admire by the people of his patriotic exploit in spreading Christianity throughout the world. Now the former sitio was now Barangay San Vicente.

Ninety percent of the total populations are Pampango, and the rest are Tagalog, Bisaya, Pangasinense, and Ilocano.

Barangay San Vicente celebrates their Feast Day every April 04-05 as a thanksgiving to their Patron Saint is Saint Vincent de Ferrer. Saint Vincent de Ferrer is the angel of the judgement and the preacher, the miracle worker and the Master of Sacred Theology.
