BARANGAY SAN JOSE DE URQUICO HISTORY

Barangay San Jose de Urquico is also part of 19 barangay enclosed in the West District Division of Tarlac City. Barangay Balanti on the West, Barangay San Luis on the North, Tibag on the Northwest, San Miguel on the Southwest, and Armenia on the South bound it.

It is approximately 9.0 kilometers away from city proper. It has a total land area of 227.17 hectares. 42.0 hectares corresponds to agriculture area and the remaining area designate to residential, industrial area and others.

It is also divided in 7 Purok namely Purok 1, Purok 2, and Purok 3 to Purok 7.

Barangay San Jose de Urquico classified as Rural Barangay, it has a total population of one thousand one hundred sixteen (1,116) as of 2005, and a household population of one hundred seventy seven (177).

Barangay San Jose de Urquico is an agricultural barangay. Approxiamtely 70% of the populace here were farmers. Farming is the major source of their livelihood. They cultivate palay, vegetables, corn and so on. However, the size of the land is too small the total land area is more than 200 hectares and the sizes of the farmland are more than 40 hectares only. It is because the remaining land area corresponds to dormant land or vacant land that is full of grasses and weeds. Other residents were construction workers, laborers, drivers, and so on. Some has their own business such as sari-sari stores and so on.

Before the beginning of World War II, Barangay San Jose de Urquico was known as Sitio Pangge. It was then a part of Barangay Armenia. Later, Sitio Pangge was known as Sitio Dalisdis but this time it was part of Barangay San Rafael. In 1932, Honorable

Jose de Urquico was elected governor of the Province of Tarlac and Sitio Dalisdis started to be known as San Jose de Urquico named in tribute to the governor. From then on, the Sitio started to flourish and its territory expanded.

As time passes, San Jose de Urquico through the efforts of its elected chairman it started to have roads and population started to increase. During the terms of Chairman Eduardo C. Mendoza in 1994, roads were paved and the electrification of the barangay was implemented. Through his efforts and the cooperation of his Council, Barangay Hall, Elementary School Building, Day Care Center, Waiting Shed, Tanod headquarters, and farm to market roads were constructed.

Barangay San Jose de Urquico continuous to flourish because of the efficiency of its elected officials and through the cooperation of Mayor Genaro Mendoza of Tarlac City, projects of the barangay became realities. “Kawal Kalinga”, a housing project for soldiers of our Armed Forces have been started in the barangay.

The demise of Chairman Eduardo Mendoza had felt good and fond memories of his constituents. He felt a legacy to the students of the barangay, a Barangay Library build out of its own funds. This library provided books and reading materials for the students and others who wanted to learn. They do not have to buy books in order to learn because the library provides them what they need.

Ninety percent of the total populations are Pampango, and the rest are Tagalog, Bisaya, Pangasinense, and Ilocano.

Barangay San Jose de Urquico celebrates their feast day every March 18-19 as a thanksgiving to the patron Saint Joseph (San Jose). Saint Josephafter Our Lady, the holiest mere man who ever lived. He is Patron of Carpenters and Patron of Workers.
