BARANGAY POBLACION HISTORY
Barangay Poblacion is the heart of the City. It surrounded by Barangay Mabini on the North, Barangay San Nicolas on the East, Barangay Ligtasan on the South, Barangay Sto. Cristo on the Southeast and Barangay Cut Cut 1st on the West.
It is approximately 0.0 kilometers away from city proper. It has a total land area of 19.64 hectares, almost 90% of the total land areas were business establishments, and 10% were residential area.
Barangay Poblacion classified as Urban Barangay, it has a total population of two hundred seventy eight (278) as of 2005, and a household population of ninety-five (95).
Mostly residents in this Barangay deal with business because this is the center of commerce in Tarlac. Almost the whole area was filled of different business establishments. The residents of this barangay were transferred to subdivision because of the limited space to dwell. They are also businesspersons. The economy of this barangay is stable because of the different business establishment situated in this barangay.
This Barangay found by the Spanish and named it as Poblacion, which means, “Center”. This barangay is the center or heart of Tarlac City. Business, education, religion and commerce are located here. In 1990’s, the voting precinct of this barrio is only in their houses and most of their area is residential. Filipino was the first owner of this place wherein they pioneered the business industry in Tarlac City. As time passed by, they sold their business to the Chinese because of economic flight. Today, only few residents live here and most of the buildings that are standing in this barangay are about business firms. Poblacion is only one of the business centers in the City. Mabini, Cut-Cut 1st, San Nicolas, Ligtasan, Sto. Cristo, San Roque, and San Vicente are also commercial centers.
Ninety percent of the total populations are Pampango, and the rest are Tagalog, Bisaya, Pangasinense, and Ilocano.
Barangay Poblacion celebrates their Feast Day concurrently with Tarlac Feast Day or the Malatarlac Festival every January 20. Their Patron Saint is Saint Sebastian. . Saint Sebastian was considered protector against the plague as having been killed by arrows and it was thought that plague spread abroad through the air.
